Heart Beet Kitchen: a must eat

Being the only vegan in my family and one of few vegans I know in real life, it's not that often that I get to go to a vegan restaurant. The challenge of navigating eating at a restaurant that doesn't even have vegan options other than a salad and maybe fries is nothing new to me. That's why when I do go to a vegan restaurant, it's so much fun because not only do I have more options of what I can eat but they're also run according to the philosophy that's influencing my food choices so I fit in seamlessly. Not too long ago, I went with my mom and two friends of ours to a vegan AND gluten free restaurant in Haddon Township, NJ called Heart Beet Kitchen. They also have a location in Ocean City and they deserve to become an even bigger chain and expand out of New Jersey. We all loved it there and we will be back for sure.

I ordered the "Eggplant Meatball" dish which consists of raw spiralized zucchini, eggplant based meatballs, and marinara sauce. With that, I got a charcoal lemonade to drink which is surprisingly very green. The lemonade was not bad but a bit too strong for me but I'm sure that if you prefer your green juices to have a stronger flavor and be half pulp, you might like it. My mom got the buffalo cauliflower sandwich which is supposed to replicate buffalo chicken (a definite favorite in our family) and she said it was so good. I sampled it and it tasted just like the buffalo chicken I was raised with. Our friend Ethan got the avocado toast and an order of blue corn chips and guacamole and he apparently is a huge avocado fan because he commented that he thinks they used seven avocados to make that yet he thoroughly enjoyed it, saying that he would come back just for that. Our friend Adam ordered  the quinoa tacos. He most likely had no exposure to any of the contents before he ordered it so he was being adventurous and I don't think he regretted it for a second.

One thing some of you might like is that there is kombucha available on draft. My mom drinks kombucha regularly and she was actually the one to introduce it to me so this is something she really liked. She got the pineapple flavor and said it was good. It appeared to hit the spot for her. They also have elderflower kombucha which I am probably going to opt for next time.

They also have a selection of baked goods available at the checkout. These baked goods are individual servings such as muffins and blondies but they don't have entire cakes or pies. I cannot critique those items in this review because we did not get any of the baked goods.

In conclusion, if you are ever in the vicinity of this restaurant, please do yourself a favor and pay them a visit. You will not regret it.
